Fitness Craze is Lornshill-Bound

Urban rebounding is the latest fitness craze and it's coming to Clackmannanshire.

Celebrities including Madonna, Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow, Courteney Cox, and Shakira all rave about urban rebounding, which is a cardio workout on a mini-trampoline.

Clackmannanshire Council is the first local authority to bring urban rebounding to Scotland. The fitness craze is already huge in America and has recently become popular in parts of England. Local tutors are being trained this month and pupils at Lornshill Academy will be the first in Clackmannanshire to try the activity. The pupils will enjoy urban rebounding as part of the 'fitness for girls' programme during a PE lesson in the new term.

Urban rebounding is a safe, effective style of aerobics performed on a mini trampoline or rebounder. It provides a surprisingly challenging cardiovascular workout without excess stress on the heart, muscles and joints so is suitable for all fitness levels and ages.

Councillor George Matchett, Inclusion Portfolio Holder, said: "The Council is committed to helping our residents be fit and active. Urban rebounding workouts are great fun and help develop cardiovascular endurance, all over body conditioning and general fitness.

"We recognise it's important to offer our residents a range of diverse sports and physical activities that are fun, challenging and capture their interest in fitness and encourages everyone in getting more active. We think urban rebounding will be popular, especially with teenage girls, and if that proves to be the case will have more classes across Clackmannanshire."

Urban rebounding will initially be delivered in Lornshill Academy and then across the county's three secondary schools before becoming a wider leisure opportunity for the whole community.
